Conference: Girls in Technology

Women in Tech® is an international non-profit organization with a dual mission: to close the gender gap and help women embrace technology. The organization focuses on 4 key areas that are a call to action: Education, Entrepreneurship, Events and Research. The aim is to educate, equip and equip women and girls with the necessary skills to succeed in a career in the STEM fields. In the Republic of North Macedonia, Women in tech are present through their ambassadors, but they do not have a registered entity. IMPACT FOUNDATION is a proxy organization for the activities of Women in Tech in the Republic of North Macedonia.

Project Objective:

Present examples (role models) of successful women in technology in front of a wider audience which would strengthen the role of the woman in the technology sector, Encouraging girls and girls to think more about a career in technology through and promoting the option of education and career in technology, as well as training and information to at least 50 girls and women for what the work in the sector involves Beneficiaries of the proposed program are girls and girls from 6 – 24 years, on the territory of the city of Skopje. The expected number of people covered by the Conference is over 200 people, of which a minimum 70% are women. The conference was organized by Women in Tech Macedonia and Impact Foundation – Skopje with the support of the City of Skopje in order to strengthen the role of women in the technology sector and encourage girls to think more about a career in technology.

Results:

First online conference “Girls in Technology”: 10 speakers, 600 live, over 3000 viewers. Ten role models and successful women in technology through their inspirational stories encouraged girls to think about a career in technology through the online conference “Girls in Technology” held on Thursday (May 14, 2020) live through the Zoom platform and social media and reached over 3000 viewers. During the 4 hours, the ten speakers managed to keep the attention of over 600 live listeners and through interaction provided space for all women, girls in technology, and leaders in the IT industry, to exchange opinions, discuss their life stories and share experiences. The questions asked and the answers given shook the barriers and stereotypes that girls could not succeed in technology.

Andrijana Serafimovska is the Communications Assistant at Impact Foundation. An ambitious and self-driven individual, with a passion for volunteering to better the quality of life of disadvantaged groups. She is experienced in project management for NGOs and social media marketing.
