Second Freelance Conference

The Second Freelance Conference, held on April 29, 2024, at Hotel Marriott in Skopje, was successfully implemented as part of a broader initiative to strengthen the freelance ecosystem in North Macedonia. Building on the momentum of the first conference in 2022, the event brought together around 200 participants, including freelancers, remote workers, and industry experts. The conference featured insightful panel discussions, a Mentors’ Corner, networking breakout sessions, and an expo area showcasing services for freelancers.

Project Objective

The Second Freelance Conference aimed to strengthen and expand the freelance ecosystem in North Macedonia by building on the success of the first national conference held in 2022.
Its objective was to provide freelancers with updated knowledge, practical tools, and a platform for deepening community connections. With a growing freelance economy driven by global digitalization and remote work trends, the event sought to equip freelancers with the insights, resources, and networks needed to thrive in a competitive market.
The conference also aimed to promote North Macedonia as an emerging hub for remote work, encouraging innovation and economic growth through freelancing.

Project Implementation

Event Date: 29 April 2024
Venue: Hotel Marriott, Skopje

The conference was organized by Impact Foundation with the support of a marketing agency and internal communications staff.
Implementation included a multi-channel promotional campaign across social media and digital magazines, targeted outreach to relevant audiences, and coordination of speakers, mentors, panelists, and exhibitors.

Outreach & Promotion

  • Active promotion across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, reaching a combined organic + paid audience of 78,506 people.
  • Press releases across major online media outlets and a televised guest appearance on Telma TV.
  • Content dissemination from 16 April to 4 May 2024.

Attendance

The event gathered approximately 200 participants, evenly split between men and women. The diverse audience included experienced freelancers, newcomers, industry experts, and companies offering freelance-related services.

Activities

1. Expert Panels & Presentations

The conference offered several carefully curated sessions addressing essential aspects of freelance work:

  • Financial Stability for Freelancers: Expert advice and practical strategies for managing and improving long-term financial wellbeing.
  • Strengthening the National Freelance Community: Inspiring presentations that encouraged innovation, entrepreneurship, and professional development.
  • Positioning North Macedonia as a Remote-Work Hub: A forward-looking discussion on how the country can attract global talent and support digital nomads.

2. Networking Opportunities

A central feature of the conference was facilitating meaningful connections. Activities included:

  • Mentors’ Corner – a dedicated space for personalized guidance from experts.
  • Breakout sessions and informal networking moments, enabling freelancers to exchange ideas and build professional relationships.

3. Expo Area

Companies offering services relevant to freelancers showcased their solutions, provided consultations, and engaged directly with attendees seeking practical tools for their work.

4. Communications & Media Outreach

  • Press coverage across at least 10 online media outlets.
  • Coordinated social media strategy across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • TV interview discussing freelancing and conference themes.

Results & Follow-Up

Immediate Results

  • High engagement from approximately 200 attendees confirmed the strong and growing freelance community in North Macedonia.
  • Participants gained practical financial, legal, and strategic insights useful for career development.
  • The event strengthened Impact Foundation’s role as a central actor in developing the freelance ecosystem.
